Busy Summer of Events- Bristol and Northampton Special!!
Thanks for visiting my blog here you will see latest news on Ballooning in Oxfordshire, Ballooning News across United Kingdom.. Weather Updates and Balloon Event News.
Its been a hectic summer of ballooning events, in April we attended the London Marathon. In May we took the long trek down to Tiverton in Devon. Before attending Evesham in June and Woodcote in July- Both very windy!.
August however saw a new and exciting way of attending Bristol Balloon Fiesta, i camped with Chris Hayden and met up with Saul Jefferies,James Mcdonald throughout the weekend was really good fun! 4/6 slots were flown, with the forecast upon arrival it seemed we would be lucky to get one slot, but the weather changed for the better. Some beautiful launches; Friday Evening and Sunday Morning were the highlights, although Friday morning's low cloud and saturday night's dull weather still meant flying. The Thursday Nightglow and Saturday were very special, saturday night was celebrating 40th birthday of Cameron Balloons and it did go with a BANG. The clear blues skies welcomed the brillant as ever 'Red Arrows' and performed a tremendous display. I helped the Royal Navy Balloon and Panasonic Battery Balloon a few times during the weekend, i tethered in the 'Battery' for the Saturday Lunchtime in which Itv This Morning were filming for a food programme.
The following weekend it was Northampton Balloon Festival an event which i was crewing for Jamie Edwards and Howard Cusden, Chris Hayden was also with us, i arrived on Thursday and spent the whole weekend with them. I flew the Friday Morning slot, it was my 4th flight of all time and one of the most enjoyable. Chelsea Edwards also flew with us and the morning mist and sun burning thorugh made it a perfect morning flight. Friday evening was breezy and gusty, 3/4 balloons flew in very challenging conditions. Saturday Morning me and Chris attended the morning lift where over 25 balloons flew in very breezy conditions once more. Saturday Night was also quite breezy after a weak showerband passed through midafternoon, Jamie edwards took off first followed by 20/25 others heading straight for Kettering, a very fast flight for all who flew including the Cadburys Creme Egg Shape (G-OEGG). Sunday morning was calm and bright to begin, but as the first balloons took off the warm front brought heavy rain and 10 balloons flew. Sunday afternoon was sunny but the wind soon picked up, we tethered for a Charity at Northampton University, very challenging conditions, in which Jamie did exceptionally well!. Sunday evening the wind picked up more before dropping out but all to very kate and flying was cancelled due to a 15-17knot surface wind gusting 20-25knots. A very interesting but fantastic weekend with some great friends.
